Columbian Boa Constrictor

Latin name: Boa Constrictor

Native Home:  Boa constrictors range from northern Mexico south through Central and South America. Boa constrictors occupy a variety of habitats. Primary habitat is rainforest clearings or edges. However, they are also found in woodlands, grasslands, dry tropical forest, thorn scrub, and semi-desert.

Size: Female Columbian Boa Constrictormay reach 10 feet in length, though this is rare for B. c. imperator, and the average adult size for females is usually 6 to 8 feet. Males are smaller, usually 5 to 7 feet in length.

Diet: Columbian Boa Constrictors will eat one appropriately sized rodent every 7 to 10 days for their entire lives. It will range from small mice up to large rats.

Reproduction: Female Columbian Boa Constrictors bear about 20 to 30 live young that are more than a foot long at birth.

Lifespan:  Columbian Boa Constrictors are potentially long-lived, perhaps averaging 25 to 35 years.
