Cottage style design

cottage style bedroom

Cottage style design is my favorite of them all. I think of gabled roofs, wooden shutters, and white picket fences. A small but pretty little fairy tale home. So what does that look like on the inside?

what is cottage style interior design

Cottage style is often collected over time, and usually light and airy. Think florals, fabrics, slipcovers, ruffles, cafe curtains, charm, and character. The popular shabby chic style is very cottagey. Now there’s a new term called cottagecore which is similar. The names change but often the basics of the style stay the same.

A cottage style home usually feels lived in and tells a story.

English cottage interior design

Another variation of this is the English cottage style. It’s basically the same as described but uses more a more muted color scheme. Think warmer paint colors and warmer tones in fabrics and upholstery. It’s somewhat similar to the French design style.

cottage style living room

Doesn’t this living room look like somewhere you could be comfortable for hours? It’s small but well thought out with just enough vintage pieces to keep it interesting without feeling heavy.

One of my favorite things about cottage homes is the traditional cottage windows. The one above is beautiful but I also really love the windows that crank out rather than in.

With all this amazing original stonework it doesn’t even matter what else is in the room, it will be beautiful regardless.

There’s SO much I love about the kitchen above that I don’t know where to start. Every single detail is cottage perfection.

Pretty cupboards, open shelves, and a rustic table make this cottage kitchen so charming.

The retro fridge, the wooden cabinet, and the exposed brick give that collected over time look to this kitchen.

Cottage inspired dining rooms

The exposed wall studs here are outstanding. The vintage fisherman wall hangings help to tell a story. Mismatched chair cushions are in keeping with the informal feel.

You guys really have to see the whole house that this dining room is part of. It’s a stunner. I love how they made the most of this small dining area with the bookshelves. It can double as an office or study. Books add such warmth to a room. The collected art helps tell this family’s story.

cottage style bedrooms

The room above is one of my all-time favorite bedrooms. A lot has to do with the painted floors, another characteristic of this style. The unique bed looks like it could be a family heirloom.

Quirky architecture, a few antique pieces, and mismatched lighting make this room cozy and one of a kind. Isn’t that beautiful?

cottage style bathrooms

Planked walls, beadboard ceiling, and the most stunning vintage mirror. Enough said!

Skirted sinks or cabinets are another cottage feature. Pairing it with that vintage table-turned vanity was brilliant. The off-center artwork and light keep this perfectly imperfect.

  1. Love them all, but so far the cottage design is my favorite.

  2. I love the cottage style. The cottage shown in the pictures is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Some of these are very cottage, but some of these are much more Nordic French. If you look at my last name in my email, you will see that I am French?, and there was a point where Nordic design influenced French design, which is where you see rooms with a lot of white everywhere. Cottage style is less about white everywhere and is more about earth tones.

  4. Cottage Style is my favorite, and has been for decades. It is warm & cozy, but also light & bright. The first Cottage kitchen is my favorite. I can picture it in the woods here in the States, or in the Swiss Alps, or Scandinavia

  5. Very pretty. Spaces ya never want to leave. ๐Ÿ˜

  6. I am very grateful for our cottage style home. We plan to enhance those type details on the exterior of the house, and inside I love a soft look with cozy accents. I am not sure what category of cottage it falls into, but I do know it is cottage in general. I love white, but I do not only have white. I love it here!!
