Fantasy football start/sit, Week 12: Pierre Thomas looks like PPR play

Pierre Thomas has been the main man on the ground for the high-powered Saints. Should you start him against the Falcons on Thursday?

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sport

There won’t be many that will argue that New Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas is a more adept pass catcher than teammate Darren Sproles, but he leads the NFC backs in receptions this season. Thomas has season totals of  413 rushing yards, 349 receiving yards, and four total TDs on 107 carries and 51 catchees.

He’s been more of a complete back than Sproles and even has 17.5 touches per game over his last four. Thomas has gained over 4.0 yards per carry in each of those games and has scored twice.

As far as his competition goes, Mark Ingram rushed just six times on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, so that 145-yard explosion against the Dallas Cowboys looks to be a fluke.

Fantasy impact: He does have some appeal with all of those touches, especially with how the Saints have been effective on offense. He would become a must-start option should Sproles (questionable) have to sit, but if Sproles can go, he’s more of a flex in standard leagues and an RB2 in PPR formats.
