Neo-Quechquémitl

Neo-Quechquémitl

AOC f58 Galleria Bruno Lisi, Rome, Italy curator Camilla Boemio

The quechquémitl is a garment which has been worn by indigenous cultures in Central Mexico since the pre-Hispanic period. For this action I presented fabric and paper templates for quechquémitls for participants to create and customize their own garment incorporating contemporary materials as a 21st century homage and expression inspired by traditional quechquémitls. Participants are invited to wear their garments and integrate them into the visual landscape of Rome and their home countries.
