LIVE Mother Teresa Canonization: Pope Francis proclaims Mother Teresa a Saint at St. Peter's Square in Vatican City

September 4: Mother Teresa, who is known the world over for her selfless service to the poor and the sick through her Missionaries of Charity, will be uplifted to the status of a saint today, in a ceremony lead by the Pope Francis in the Vatican city. The ceremony will start from 1.30 pm IST at St. Peter’s square in the holy city, which is the seat of the head of the Roman Catholics around the world. While Vatican spokesman has confirmed that all 100,000 for the mass have been sold, with more people wanting to join in, celebrations have also started in various churches and church congregations across the country, to celebrate Mother Teresa’s anointing ceremony.

We can gauge an idea of how big the ceremony is going to be, from the fact that at least 15 official delegations have confirmed to be in attendance at the venue, with 13 of them lead by various Heads of states or governments across the globe, with at least 600 journalists also being accredited. From India, where the Mother spent a lot of her lifetime and did the most phenomenal social work amongst the poor and the needy, a 12-member delegation is said to be in attendance. The delegation is lead by Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, along with two-state government lead delegations- one from Delhi and one from West Bengal- lead by Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee respectively. ALSO READ: #FraudTeresa: Why Twitterati are calling out Mother Teresa on her canonization day!
