Because he'd lost two teammates, Minato assigned him to the Anbu. Kakashi did well in the Anbu, and he become a captain and the leader of Team Ro.

In the anime, he has gained Obito's double Mangekyou Sharingan eyes and manifested Susanoo to fight against Kaguya Otsutsuki.
