The Hupa

The Hupa are a Northern California tribe and occupied land from the South Fork of the Trinity River to Hoopa Valley, to the Klamath River. Their red cedar-planked houses, dugout canoes and basket hats identify them with their northern origin. Curtis created a total of thirty-eight (38) photogravure plates from his visits with the Hupa and while twelve (12) were donated to the Museum of American Indian, twenty-six (26) remain available to collectors today.
